Become A Cyborg. Increase Your Performance.
How to increase your performance and make more money with new tech
A lot of people are scared of new technology and rightfully so. New technology comes with a lot of uncertainties such as tracking and even potential negative long term health effects. I myself am fearful of these things too but I hope to convince you to look at it from a different angle while I sip on some Rhum and write this “article” or whatever this is… Anyway lets get to it! As always, English is not my first or second language.
A New Angle
Let’s say next month some brand new smart glasses come out. The common reaction you’ll probably get from the crowd is: “They’re kind of intrusive” “Oh god those are for dorks” “Why do I even need that? I have a phone already” or “They give eye cancer”. Now take a look that this quote: “Ok a new piece of tech is out. Can I use it to increase my performance in any way?”. You see, when it comes to new tech I look how it can potentially benefit me and my mission first before the potential downsides. I do it this way because of human negativity bias and laziness. It’s all about framing. When framed this way my motivation to perform better will override my negativity bias. Also, with new tech comes new things to learn and you have to overcome the laziness that comes with that too.
Power
New technology gives you power. In the recent US wars in the middle east, night vision goggles gave US warfighters a crazy advantage. They could be absolutely lethal at night and their enemy couldn’t. It changed the way US forces operated, most chose to mainly go out at night because this supreme advantage. That being said, take a note of this: Even in the US military when night vision was first being issued out, some people chose not to use them because they “trusted their eyes more” or something. It’s wild thing to think about in hindsight.
Time
I’m not telling you to go out and buy every stupid little gadget out there. I’m telling you to not be fearful, pick and chose the ones you think will increase your daily performance and try your best to mitigate the potential risks. Life is a big game of risk to reward management. You have a responsibility to be the best version of yourself and It would be a shame if you didn’t take advantage of the tools in front of you to achieve that goal. One more thing to consider is that in this life we all have an invisible timer floating above our heads and we don’t know when it expires. I want to acquire as much wealth and resources for my family and community before my time is up and if new tech can buy me a little bit more time to do that then great! If a smart watch can look at my sleep and tell me if there’s something wrong with it. Then I’m wearing a dam smart watch.
Compromise
You don’t have to completely abandon ship every time a piece of new tech beats the other one. Smart watches are better then traditional watches PERIOD. That fact put me in a dilemma, the human in me still loved traditional watches. So what did I do? WEAR BOTH! I wear my traditional watch on my left and a smart band on my right. Best of both worlds. I get to track my sleep, heart rate, daily steps and workouts while maintaining impeccable style :-) . Are you starting to understand the mentality anon?
Warning: Please do not use gadgets as a crutch for lack of skill in fields with detrimental consequences like gunfighting. Make sure you are fundamentally proficient before you try to augment.
Steps
Identify a new piece of tech.
Can it increase my performance so that I can be more successful?
No? leave it alone. Yes? Step 4.
What are the downsides?
Can I mitigate those downsides? If yes buy immediately. No? Step 6
