Forever Is A Mighty Long Time - Intro to Hip-Hop (Part 10)
Even if you don't like Hip-Hop, You'll like this one.
When I started this ‘Intro to Hip-Hop’ series my goal wasn’t to give you history lessons on hip-hop and rap but to introduce you to all of the different sides of it. Most people are fooled by the mainstream to think there’s only 1 kind of rap. Today we’re switching it up a bit going to go over one of my favorite albums called ‘4eva Is A Mighty Long Time’ by Big K.R.I.T.
Note: Intro to hip-hop is an experience. So before you continue please grab your headphones/speakers, drinks, smokes or whatever your vice is and get ready.
Big K.R.I.T aka Justin Scott, is a rapper from Mississippi. He’s a very unique artist because he infuses his country roots with his songs to make something you never heard before. But forget all that… I think he can introduce himself better than I can. Here’s our first song and intro to the album. Make sure you got your volume up for this one!
Alright you gotta run this one back! Play it again.
On the first part of the song Krit is talking to his son or descendants telling them how he’s going to pass away soon and how they should go on and that he’s proud of them. There’s a finish line for him but they can go on forever. Second part kicks in, beat drops and Krit starts telling his son about himself and how he did it so they can carry the torch.
This song is amazing.
Next song is called ‘Big Bank’. This one is a lot of hype and motivational. I think you can tell by the name what it’s about.
Not much depth to this one just some music to blast while you speed down the highway. Very necessary, and of course we’re not going through the whole 22 song album. We’re skipping around, next up is a very chill song called ‘Layup’.
I love chill rap songs so of course this one was going to be up here. Nothing is as smooth as a clean layup. If I were you I would listen to this song while watching Jordan in the 91 NBA finals.
Now for another one of my favorite all time songs to blast while I hit 100mph+ on a bridge. Here’s ‘Get Away’!
Man this song increases blood flow by 1000%. Especially the beginning of that second verse, Sheeeeh. And “Fuck all that salt that they’re tossin, sauce got plenty of flavor”. Meaning he doesn’t care that people hate on him he has all the style. This album is actually segregated into two parts the first half is rap heavy and the second part is a bit more Soul and R&B with rap. But it’s just as good.
Next song is called ‘Mixed Messages’
In this song Krit is talking about what we all go through thinking about our hypocrisy. Next one is called ‘Miss Georgia Fornia”
I actually really enjoy this song, the singing is perfect the rap is perfect. What more do you want? Next up is ‘Price of fame’.
On this one obviously Krit is talking about fame and the temptations. “I ain’t been to Church in years and It ain’t even far”. This album is really amazing and there’s no way I can cover all of it. You’ll have to do that yourself after this. But for now the next song is ‘Drinking sessions’. In this one Krit really opens up to tell you how he really feels.
Last but not least is ‘Bury Me In Gold’. It’s a very interesting song because Krit mixes rap with a bit of gospel and it comes out this heavenly experience. This is truly and amazing song, it ended the album in a perfect way.
“Big houses, nice cars, all that stuff cool but its materialistic things that we strive so hard for as human beings. And its not fulfilling , it doesn't take away the pain, it doesn't take away the loss. You have to search higher”.
Thank you for reading.
