On Thursday afternoon, Israel launched an unprecedented air campaign against Iran. Israel attacked government officials, nuclear sites, missile sites, and more. Iran responded by attacking Israel with back-to-back missile barrages.

The Motive
For some decades now, Iran has been working on enriching uranium. This enriched uranium could potentially be used to produce nuclear weapons. Israel claims the reason they attacked Iran is to stop them from producing such weapons. The U.S. was engaged in negotiations with Iran when Israel decided to attack. This suggests that Israel was either not satisfied with the progress of those negotiations or with what the U.S. was willing to concede.
This attack is not an isolated incident. One can see this as an extension of the Gaza conflict. Iran is a sponsor of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis. All of which are groups that Israel has engaged with militarily within the past year.
