The Israeli Defense forces have their work cut out for them. It’s seems like they’re committed to a ground invasion of the Gaza strip. They have two choices here, eradicate Hamas once and for all, or have their citizens under constant threat for the foreseeable future.
Although, one could say there’s a third option and that’s “liberate” the people of Gaza. Give them what they want! One state solution, two state solution etc.. The problem here is that for Israel, both of these options don’t actually eliminate the Hamas threat. Just because you make Israel into one big happy country through a one state system does not mean Hamas just packs up their bags and leaves. It just means they now get to switch their goal post. Maybe instead of trying to “eradicate the Israeli State” they could maybe switch to “eradicate the non-Palestinians from our land”. Also huge issue for the Zionists (a person who believes in the development and protection of a Jewish nation) is that with a two state system they would be welcoming a huge amount of anti-Zionist into their voting pool. Between the West Bank and Gaza, Palestinians have a population of almost 5 million, there are only 7 million Jews in Israel. That would mean Palestinians would be around 41 percent of the voter base. I don’t think Jews who have been persecuted throughout history and finally got their own state would like to play with those numbers.
