Almost everyday now when you talk about powers like Russia and China people will talk about how they have unstoppable hypersonic weapons, unstoppable missiles that could destroy the entire US carrier fleet. What If I told you there are some very important things they’re not telling you?
One day I was thinking about Ukraine and how Russia claimed they shot a hypersonic missile. I wondered, what do they mean by “hypersonic”? Is is just that it’s faster than Mach 5? Because if so, those missiles have been around for decades and can be intercepted just fine. So I decided to look into it and write an article for you guys.
I’m Fast AF Boi
A hypersonic missile is a missile that is going faster than Mach 5. Weapons that can reach hypersonic speed have been with us for a long time. In World War 2, German V2 rockets dropped on England at hypersonic speeds. The first Intercontinental Ballistic Missile by the United States in 1959 could reach Mach 21.
These missiles can be shot down just fine, they’re traveling on a predictable path towards their target. All you would have to do is determine that path and throw up your own missile where they’re going to be.
Few examples:
Glide Weapons
When you hear the words “unstoppable hypersonic”, people are usually referring to glide vehicles. According to Wikipedia it’s a type of warhead for ballistic missiles that can maneuver and glide at hypersonic speed. These weapons were first created in the 1960s as vehicles like the X-15 that flew over 199 flights.
