February 24, 2022 a man named Vladimir Putin thinking his forces were more capable then they were, willingly walks into a baited ambush in Ukraine. In his defense, everyone in the world fell for this illusion. Russian propaganda was so strong how could you not? From “SU-57s” to “T14 Armatas”. One country saw through the BS though and that’s the United States, they always believed Ukraine could defeat Russia. Quoting the late US senator John McCain speaking to Ukrainian troops in 2016 “ I believe you will win, I am convicted you will win. We will do everything we can to provide you with what you need to win.” See video
While Russian forces are engaged with Ukrainian troops, NATO is flooding Ukraine with arms. Nothing wrong with a little proxy war but something is different this time. The capabilities of the arms being sent are different. Anti-tank and Anti-aircraft weapons were not really in the mix in the past few modern day Super Power proxy wars. Proxy wars were typically small arms like assault riffles, cheap unguided RPGs and things of that nature. NATO sending in NLAWS, Javelins, Stingers, Drones, Helicopters, guided rockets and more. You might be thinking, Well… Bad for Russia but how does that make the world a more dangerous place?
Russia will now look to arm any group that’s engaged with the US militarily with similar arms. Look what happened to the US in Afghanistan… Well now imagine if those guys had Anti-air capabilities and Anti-tank. Quickly the situation on the ground changes and it becomes to a more complex places to operate with zero room for mistakes. That Airstrike you called for might not be able to get there, that Quick Reaction Force you ordered might not make it to you. Those ISR drones might not be able to help you.
With these weapons the fights start to get more even. One thing that everyone should hate is an even fight, the unfair advantage should always be what you go for. This will cause the US to be more timid in their interventionalist movements. This will empower Jihadists that are against the US and probably make terrorist attacks in first world countries more frequent. Russia hasn’t yet retaliated against the west for the actions against it, I fear they’re just waiting for the right time to squeeze where it hurts. The Russian Federation is the second largest arms exporter after the United States.
